Sustainable Lighting Consultancy:

KIN Food Halls’ Environmental Philosophy

KIN Food Halls is a hospitality project imagined by Matthew Reid that aims to change the way we eat. The new F&B spot based in Taikoo Place’s Devon House, Hong Kong, is characterized by its green building focus, with dishes made of local and regenerative ingredients.

KIN Food Halls marks a major step forward in the development of sustainable F&B projects, not only by its cuisine but also by its space design and recycled FF&E. Not only dining tables are partly built with recycled watermelon rinds and soy beans but the decorative table lamps are made of tea leaves.

The overall focus of KIN is to improve F&B sustainable impact, without impacting the customer experience. Baseline Lighting Design Studio was chosen to implement a green lighting design aligning with the food hall’s goal.

Baseline Lighting experts designed a careful light planning and simulation defining sustainable lighting guidelines providing the right amount of light and creating the best dining experience. Additionally, lighting control systems were integrated to optimize and reduce power consumption during restaurant operation. The total lighting energy use of KIN food halls stands at 10.59W/sqm, following the BEC Lighting Power Budget requirements.

Lighting control also allows KIN to set different atmospheres depending on service time and temporary events organized. Customers will experience bright light during lunchtime, however, when they visit the place at night for dinner and a drink, they will discover dimmed lighting, to contribute to a casual evening. In fact, the ambiance of a restaurant is largely affected by the color temperature, and brightness of the lighting, setting the mood of the place before customers even take a seat. With the appropriate restaurant lighting design, you can set the atmosphere you want your place to be remembered for.

Baseline Lighting Design Studio makes your hospitality life easier, optimizing F&B lighting concept and implementation. Connect with lighting experts for design concept, light simulation, engineering control system, and onsite implementation to ensure the best customer experience.
